I have only seen them in the catalog or in pictures, but what you can do is check the big and small ends for roundness, and check that all four have equal length and they are not bent.
You ill need two shafts that exactly fit both ends. The small end is easy - a wrist pin should do - but for the big end you will have to have something turned. You should be able to put all four rods should on the shafts - if they don't, they may have stretched unevenly, or at least one of them may be bent.
Also, the wrist pin should fit easily without play.
