HI
JUST JOINED THE FORUM BECAUSE I THINK I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A HONDA BRITAIN.
CAN ANYBODY HELP ME TO IDENTIFY MY BIKE TO SEE IF IT IS A GENUINE SEELEY HONDA?
LOOKING AT PHOTOS I HAVE FOUND IT LOOKS VERY SIMILAR RIGHT DOWN TO THE LOCATION OF THE IGNITION KEY.
ANY TIPS OR POINTERS WILL BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED
THAANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi Mick,

welcome to the Forum! Would you have a picture of your bike? If you have problems showing it here (you need to put it on a server somewhere and post a link here), just email it to me (sohc4de@gmail.com) and I will post it for you.

BTW, the ignition key position on the Seeley under the tank is the same as with the stock Hondas. What's the chassis number of your bike?

Cheers,

I don't think the key switch position is a reliable indicator, I moved the one for #642 from under the tank to on the yokes out of preference (and fear of losing the keys while riding)! Frame number is good though, if it starts CB750xxxx then it's a Britain, if it's SH7xxxx then a Seeley. Other easy identifiers:

-Seeley footrest plates are much simpler & have no window for checking brake fluid level
-Seeley swingarm is round tube with chain adjusters inside while Britain one is kind of a square/fabricated section with chain adjusters outside
-Britains usually had Comstar wheels (I think they were all F2 based)

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the Britains/Phil Read reps were UK only or did any get exported? They're relatively common in the UK, compared to Seeleys.

Cheers

I never saw any Britain/Phil Read replicas in Germany, not even advertized.
